q and also a :: Deadbeat Club

Hampshire College postpunk outfit Deadbeat Club sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of q and also a.

q: What is the last song you (really) heard?

Daniella Doom: Rid of Me by PJ Harvey.

Edie Von Slayer: These kinds of questions are always hard. I just always have a bunch of songs that circulate in my mind and there’s no order to them really. We listen to songs together too. Like Babes in Toyland and Cat Power. So I guess I’ll say Spun and Good Clean Fun.

Mandy Coxx: Summer Feeling by Jonathan Richman. I’ve got the post-summer blues.

Lilian Filth: Both of the songs that are on John Frusciante’s Estrus EP.

q: What is the first album you remember purchasing?

Daniella Doom: Beyonce Crazy in Love

Edie Von Slayer: Also a tough one. I really remember loving The Cranberries when I was younger. But I guess if I’m being really honest, the first album I begged my parents to buy was most definitely Let Go, Avril Lavigne.

Mandy Coxx: Yeah I also think it was Avril’s Let Go, or it might of been Shakira’s Laundry Service.

Lilian Filth: I remember buying Gwen Stefani’s Love, Angel, Music, Baby with my own money at Target when I was little.

q: Is there an album you wished you knew about when you were younger?

Daniella Doom: Not really, I always appreciate the timing of when I hear an album I love. I wouldn’t want it to be old and boring to me.

Lilian Filth: Yes. There always is.

q: What is the last album that you purchased?

Daniella Doom: Collective Sigh by Pinkwash.

Edie Von Slayer: I acquired a bunch of CDs recently, $1 each at a library sale. It was so sick. I got the Twin Peaks soundtrack, a Kate Bush CD, a Garbage CD and more.

Mandy Coxx: Holyoke by Rabbit Rabbit (local favorite).

Lilian Filth: Yr Body is Nothing by Boy Harsher. Really good album.

q: What is your favorite memory of experiencing music in a live setting?

Daniella Doom: Britney Spears live

Edie Von Slayer: There’s too much for this question. I did recently get to see PJ Harvey in concert which fulfilled a dream in me. She was really good. I wish that I could have seen her in concert for any of her first 4 albums. The Breeders was also one of my favorite concerts ever. But I do hate those big crowded venues. I like playing DIY shows with bands that we play with and being able to make new friends.

Mandy Coxx: 15 years old. Iggy Pop & the Stooges and Mudhoney. I didn’t go but I wanted to so bad it was like I did.

Lilian Filth: I like to go to the shows my friends play…

q: What piece(s) of culture are you really really excited about right now?

Black Lives Matter.

q: Anything we should know about your latest project (whatever that might be)?
